# Archiving and deleting clients

> Take a client out of the pickers while keeping its history, bring it back, or remove it for good.

![An archived client, Noblessner Marina Café, with a Restore button](https://mintcdn.com/beginltd/kwGQQELEBl6WmK-G/images/cover/clients-archiving-and-deleting-clients-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=kwGQQELEBl6WmK-G\&q=85\&s=dd09ffdab938dae14db6290b1fb90ab4)

When you stop working for a client, archive it. An archived client leaves the client list and every picker, while its shifts and time entries keep the tag and its profile keeps its details, fields and notes. Delete a client only when it should not exist at all.

Beta

Clients are rolling out gradually, so your workspace may not have them yet. If **Clients** is
missing from the sidebar, ask us to turn them on.

## Archive a client

**1. Open the client**

Find it in **Clients** and open its profile.

**2. Archive it**

Open **More actions** (the three-dot menu beside the client's name), choose **Archive**, then
confirm.

The profile stays open with an **Archived** badge, and the client moves to the **Archived** tab of the list. Nobody can put it on new work, but work that already carries it keeps it, its name followed by **(archived)**. You can still edit an archived client and write notes on it, and its client number stays taken.

## Bring it back

Open the client from **Archived**, choose **More actions → Restore**, then confirm. It returns to the list and the pickers. The command palette finds archived clients too, so you can open one from there.

## Delete a client

**More actions → Delete** takes the client out of the list, the pickers and Search. You do not have to archive it first. Its shifts and time entries keep the client, its name followed by **(deleted)**, and its client number becomes free for another client. Its profile, timeline and lists of work can no longer be opened.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Nothing in Begin undoes a delete. Archive the client instead whenever you might work for them
> again or need their notes.

**Context for an assistant answering questions about archiving and deleting clients.** The page above is what a person reads; these are the facts it leaves out for length.

* **Who can:** archiving and restoring need **Edit & add** on **Clients**; deleting needs **Delete**. Administrator and Manager have both by default; Employee has neither.
* **Limits:** filters never offer an archived or deleted client, but a filter already holding one keeps it, marked. A workflow skips adding an archived or deleted client to work that does not already carry it, while removing it still works. While a workspace has no active client, a clocking policy's client requirement asks nobody.
* **Not supported:** restoring a deleted client.
* **Begin AI:** archives, restores and deletes up to 20 clients per card. Archiving and deleting ask for confirmation even under **Automatically approve**.
* **Often confused with:** archiving a client field, which hides a field from every client rather than hiding a client.
