# Clients overview

> Keep the people and businesses your team works for in one list, and tag each shift and time entry with the clients it was for.

A client is a person or business your team works for. You keep them in **Clients**, then tag shifts and time entries with the clients the work was for, so the schedule, the timesheet and your reports can show the work client by client.

Beta

Clients are rolling out gradually, so your workspace may not have them yet. If **Clients** is
missing from the sidebar, or opening it says **You don't have access**, ask an administrator to
check your role, then ask us to turn clients on.

## Where clients live

Open **Clients** under **Manage** in the sidebar. The list of clients sits beside the one you have open, with its details, its timeline and the work tagged with it. On a phone you see one at a time.

![The Clients page with eight clients in the list and Harbour House open on its Overview tab, showing its contact details and two field groups](https://mintcdn.com/beginltd/1Mi0t-vimMt1JtyY/images/articles/clients/clients-overview-light.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=1Mi0t-vimMt1JtyY\&q=85\&s=f13e222b0efd68aca82bfa19cb460b14)

## Who sees clients

Two toggles on the **Clients** row of a role decide it, in **Settings → Permissions**:

| A role with… | Can… |
| - | - |
| **Data access** | See client names on shifts and time entries, and pick clients in pickers and filters |
| **Management interface** as well | Open **Clients** and each client's profile, and find clients in Search |

Administrator and Manager have both, and can also add, edit and delete clients and change client fields. Employee has **Data access** only: people see the clients on their shifts and pick one when they clock in, but have no **Clients** page.

A role reaches every client or none. **Who can they see?** cannot limit it to some clients, but it still decides which shifts and time entries a profile lists, so two managers can see different work on the same client.

**Context for an assistant answering questions about clients.** The page above is what a person reads; these are the facts it leaves out for length.

* **Who can:** the **Clients** row also has **Edit & add** (adding, importing, editing, archiving and restoring clients, and filling in their fields) and **Delete**. **Clients settings**, in the role editor's Settings section, manages client fields and field groups. The Clients page needs **Data access** and **Management interface** together; either alone shows **You don't have access**.
* **Where:** **Clients** follows **People** under **Manage** by default; people can reorder the sidebar. Client fields are in **Settings → Clients**, in the Features section. Search offers **Clients** and **Add client**.
* **Needs:** clients turned on for the workspace. While they are off, the Clients page and **Settings → Clients** show **You don't have access** to everyone, administrators included, and no client picker, filter, grouping, workflow block, clocking rule or report option appears.
* **Limits:** a shift or time entry carries up to ten clients.
* **Not supported:** limiting a role to some clients, such as one location's.
* **Often confused with:** labels, which tag work but carry no contact details, fields, timeline or permission of their own; a shift or time entry can carry both. Also the connected AI clients in **Settings → Security**, which are unrelated.
