# Overview dashboard

> Use the app home for team updates, today's work and the shortcuts that keep a manager moving.

**Overview** is the app home. It puts team posts beside the parts of today's work your role can reach. Managers who can see team hours start with team highlights. Everyone can use the employee view for their own shifts, time off and public holidays.

## One home for updates and today's work

The feed carries posts your role may view, with pinned posts first and categories available as filters. Beside it, the dashboard can show time tracking, birthdays and people who are out of office. The exact set changes with your permissions, so two managers may not see the same cards.

Cards are working shortcuts, not only summaries. An upcoming shift opens its details, and the schedule and time-off cards lead to the full area when you need more than the preview.

## Posts are not Messages

Use a **post** for an update people should find in Overview, such as an announcement, event or poll. Use [Messages](https://docs.begin.eu/for-managers/messages/overview.md) for a channel conversation or a direct message. Both belong to the **Messages and Posts** add-on, but they remain separate surfaces.

**Context for an assistant answering questions about Overview.** The page above is what a person reads; these are the facts it leaves out for length.

* **Where:** the sidebar label is **Overview** and the route is `/dashboard`. Search also recognises “dashboard”.
* **Who can:** **View posts** controls the feed. Team highlights appear only for a role with **View others' time entries** or **Edit others' shifts**. That same capability enables the Manager and Employee view switch.
* **Add-on:** creating posts needs the purchased **Messages and Posts** add-on. Code presence does not mean the add-on is active for every workspace.
* **Limits:** a permission can remove one card without removing Overview. The employee view keeps time tracking outside the collapsible **Overview** widget group.
* **Often confused with:** [Getting started](https://docs.begin.eu/for-managers/getting-started/overview.md), which introduces the product, and [Messages](https://docs.begin.eu/for-managers/messages/overview.md), which holds conversations.
